While keeping fit when pregnant makes sense, working out excessively doesn’t. By over doing your workout, you may start to burn protein, and that’s not good for fetal development. Instead pregnant women should exercise comfortably, but not to the point of exhaustion. Dr. Alan Greene, pediatrician and author of From First Kicks to First Steps elaborates. “When you’re pregnant you won’t want to make a sudden change in exercise, but it’s a great time to begin healthy habits of activity such as daily walking, or a low impact aerobic class could be great for your health and for your baby’s. It reduces the chance of a premature baby and reduces the chance that you’ll develop pregnancy induced hypertension or gestational diabetes. Before starting an exercise program you’ll want to make sure that it’s appropriate for you.”
