Homework tips for the child who hates homework.
Homework is an important part of a child’s education, but if you have a kid who is struggling with academics, homework may feel like adding insult to injury. And while your child may never relish the idea of spending time hitting the books after a full day of school, there are ways to make homework a little easier to take explains Richard Selznick, author of The Shutdown Learner.
“Parents tend to want the child to do the homework right away when they come home from school”, explains Selznick who adds that “I tend to not like that as much as I think kids do need some down time. I think if they set up a natural block of time such as after dinner, perhaps 7pm to 8:30pm, this is a more quiet time, the TV is dimmed down, there’s not as much electronics and it creates more of a tone that can be motivating. Also, encourage the parents to not have the child do the work in their room as there are often too many distractions up there.”
