A look at how vegetarian families live life without meat.
While many people eat less meat than in times past, polls suggest that true vegetarians account for less about 10% of our population, but those numbers are on the rise, it seems. So, why choose a vegetarian diet for your family? The reasons are many says Vesanto Melina, co-author of Raising Vegetarian Children. “Families choose to be vegetarian for a whole host of reasons, which are animal rights, environment and for older people health is a big interest. And we find in families, some people are interested in being vegetarian and some people are not.”
Vesanto adds that “there are wonderful alternatives for just about anything you can think of such as shephard’s pie and many different alternatives. These can be done quite simply and I think at any age it’s good to get kids involved in the food production process and to get kids to make things they like.”
