Teaching Respect

The importance of teaching our kids to respect others.

Teaching Respect

Most parents would agree that the last thing they want to do is raise a child who harasses and bullies others.  And the best way to ensure this is the case is by teaching our kids to respect others no matter how different they are.  Patti Agatston, co-author of Cyber Rules has a few ideas on how to teach kids a little respect. “I think it’s really important to talk to kids about respect and how we treat one another.  It’s a really important message for kids to hear.  Parents can share stories about kids who were different when they were growing up and how they were treated to help kids to see that we all deserve to be respected even if we have differences.  And the finally, it’s also important for parents to talk to their kids about what they should do if they witness someone being bullied.  What are those by-stander strategies that we need to take if we see someone being treated unkindly.”
