A few coping strategies for the brand new family.

New Families

Bringing home a brand new baby is one of the most joyful experiences any new parents will face.  It is also one of the most daunting.  Caring for a child who is 100% dependent on you while terribly sleep deprived requires parents to work together and appreciate each other, says Anna Johnson, author of The Yummy Mummy Manifesto. “You will feel like you are living on Mars when you first have a child. I would say to every first mother, that no matter what your partner does to help you, try to appreciate it because nothing anyone else does feels like enough. You are so sleep deprived and the resentment in a relationship starts the day you bring a baby home and they can mount. So be grateful and also be directive. And another thing that I think is very important is to keep guests at bay and to be pretty dominating about what they bring. You don’t need soft toys, you need frozen soup.”
