How to keep your children safe and sound around a backyard pool.
Drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury related deaths in North America. And if you have a backyard pool, the chance of drowning just naturally increases, which is why being vigilant is a must. Pamela Fuselli, Executive Director with Safe Kids Canada elaborates.
“Water is very attractive to children and drownings are silent. They don’t occur like they do in the movies with splashing and you think you’ll have time or you’ll hear them in trouble and have time to react. Drowning is very silent and it happens very quickly so supervise, supervise, supervise and stay within arm’s range.”Pamella adds it’s vital to ensure your pool is fenced within your yard.”Make sure you’re protecting the children within your home as well as you’re protecting the neighborhood children from getting into your pool and to put a fence between the house and the pool.”
