Shyness

How to help you shrinking violet blossom.

Shyness

If you have a shy child, chances are you or a close relative were also shy.  That’s because shyness is a genetic trait.  That’s not to say it can’t be overcome with a little help from mom or dad, says Jacob Azzerod, author of From Difficult to Delightful in 30 Days. “Children who are shy tend to need a parent to actually tell them what to do in certain circumstances, ‘now why don’t you go over to Joni and say hello’. What the parent has to do is give the child instructions on how they should behave in a very, very gentle manner and then watch for any small indications that the child is picking up on that and then heavily praise and heavily reward those behaviors.”
