One of the simplest ways to prevent your child from getting sick.
If there is one thing a parent can do to help prevent illness in children, it has to be hand washing. And no wonder considering 80% of all infectious diseases are transmitted by touch. And a quick rinse under running water doesn’t do the trick. Instead it’s recommended that hands are scrubbed with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Lynn Wilcott with Food Protection Services at the BC Centre for Disease Control elaborates on the health benefits of hand washing.
“Hand washing is huge and what I’d like to recommend to all parents is that if they’re going to teach their child one thing, it’s to teach them how to wash their hands properly, with warm water and soap and teach them to wash their hands regularly. This goes a long way for preventing food borne illness, but it also goes a long way to preventing other things like getting a cold and getting the flu.”
