Keeping kids safe while enjoying those holiday parties.
It’s during the holiday season that as parents, we can let our guard down, particularly at seasonal gatherings with friends and family. It’s exactly why we need to be even more vigilant around our children so that we keep them safe and avoid accidents like choking on food, explains Daina Kalnins, co-author of Better Food For Kids. “Especially when you’re going into a party setting or somewhere where you have platters of food out, it’s really important to supervise your child as they’re running around or ask the host or hostess to please take that plate and put it somewhere where the young children can’t reach it.” Daina adds, keep your eye out for those foods that children under three should never have. “Hot dogs are a nice perfect round circle that can block their windpipe if it’s not chewed and taken in. Grapes, cherry tomatoes, obviously hard candy and things like that.”
