What will your newborn look like after birth?

There is nothing quite so precious as a newborn baby even if the first impression isn’t quite what you thought it would be. Some of a newborn’s distinguishing features include spotty skin and a covering of a greasy white substance called vernix.  Not quite the perfect picture you see on the cover of baby products says Dr. Catherine Younger Lewis, editor of the CMA’s Complete Book of Mother & Baby Care. “A newborn baby, when they’re first born, often is not the Gerber baby.  Their head may be a little misshapen to you, but actually it’s from the head going through the birth canal and it’s quite normal.  There may be a little bruising from the birth, their eyes may look cross-eyed.  I think the most overwhelming part for a new parent with a baby is that the baby just looks so fragile and it’s just overwhelming that you have the care of that child 24 hours a day.”
