How to enjoy time with your kids without breaking the bank, coming up next on The Parent Report.
When you listen to children talk about their favorite memories, they often mention the simple things like camping trips, bonfires on a beach, or snow fights in a park. Even memories of working together are cherished simply because it meant time together as a family. Alyson Schafer, author of Honey, I Wrecked The Kids elaborates. “Parents have this ideas that everyday has to be like a Disney weekend and that it’s supposed to cost a lot of money and that we have to fork out huge amounts of money and that we have to do something really extravagant with our kids; as if it’s supposed to be that kind of joy. And it’s not true. It can be anything. It’s just the idea of a common experience, and it can even be the struggle like the raking of the leaves. So long as you get your mind behind it to be a fun time and you turn on some music and you don’t start barking at the people who are raking too slow and you take it for what it is. You know, we just need to spend time together in the simplest way.”
