Our best friend has a 13 yrold that acts VERY immature for his age. He whines, tantrums and cuddles his mom like he's 3!!! She has said that she "tries" to get him to stay/sleep in his own room/bed but that he REFUSES! She has locked her door but he broke the knob off once & created such a LOUD disturbance another time, that the neighbors called police! The rest of the story is that she sleeps in the NUDE!! The dad abandoned him in infancy and this is when it all started & is probably why she "lets" it continue - GUILT!
He also has been diagnosed with ADHD & ODD and she feels that this ALONE is the root of all his problems. "When/if he takes his RXs like he is supposed to, he's a different kid." She doesn't even monitor that he takes them at the time or frequency that he's supposed to. She doesn't even insist that the school regulate his intake - he's supposed to go to the nurse at a certain time & if he doesn't then no one ensures that he does. She claims that he gets teased, feels ostracized & therefore how could she justifiably enforce this, since the school won't stop the bullies!!!
Her friends have tried to help her but she says that we don't understand him or their situation. Are we crazy or can anyone help us help herself?
