Tuning into your sons’ passions and interests
Does it seem like your son has few interests, outside of a maybe few computer or video games ? Well, possibly it’s that he hasn’t yet discovered his passion. While it may be a sport, it may also be music, or science or drama. As parents it’s important to explore and validate what our sons are interested in, says Susan Schaeffer, co-author of Why Boys Don’t Talk and Why It Matters. ” We want parents to provide boys with a variety of activities, a variety of feelings so that boys don’t feel that the only thing that can make them feel good about themselves is for them to be in competitive sports. We’d like parents to think about that child who likes science at an early age, who likes discovering things, and who isn’t a competitive athlete so that he has a place in society as well.”
