A look at the perfect summer job for your teenager.
Whether it’s overnight or day-camp, attending camp is a great experience for children and a great form of summer childcare for parents. And those same types of camps can also offer a wonderful job opportunity for teens. In fact, Dr. Michael Thompson, author of Homesick and Happy believes there’s not a better summer job out there for teenagers. “Working at camp is one of the best possible summer jobs for teens. It’s meaningful responsibility, you have to be good at it or the kids get bored and push back on you. There’s nothing like a bunch or eight or nine year old critics to keep you on your toes. And it’s good work that makes kids feel respect and admired as if they’ve done something meaningful, more meaningful perhaps than just being a gopher in a store or stocking shelves. Helping a small child through a crying crisis or an upset is a real maturing experience for the late teen.”
