Breast Feeding

What to do when breastfeeding seems like an impossible task.

Breast Feeding

When it comes to feeding babies, breastfeeding provides all the nutrients that infants need, and it protects them from many common childhood illnesses.  It also benefits moms by reducing the risks of breast and ovarian cancer. Still, nursing is not always easy as Erica Wells, Co-author of The Survival Guide for New Mom explains. “First and foremost I think it’s important to note that only one in ten women fly through breastfeeding without any difficulties. It’s a really tough thing to get a handle on and I think new mothers beat themselves up quite a bit if breastfeeding doesn’t come naturally. So, with breastfeeding I think it’s important for you to talk to your doctor, maybe even hire a lactation consultant, and I think it’s important to set expectations that it’s not easy to do at first and that if you are experiencing difficulties don’t give up.”
