Today’s Employers

At one time, finding an employer who was sensitive to the needs of parents was pretty difficult.  Fortunately, not so much anymore. Today many employers are very family friendly explains Nora Spinks, of the Vanier Institute of the Family. “Employers today are much more likely to be responsive and respectful to employees, both men and women, who are wanting to blend their work and family.  They’re offering much more flexibility, autonomy, alternative careers paths, choice in how, when, and where work gets done, holding people accountable for their output, not their presence.” And today’s parents have also found solutions to their responsibilities. “They are also negotiating in their household.  Who’s going to do what, who’s going to prepare what meals, who’s going to fulfill what responsibilities.  There’s much more sharing between moms and dads even if they’re living in two different households.”
