Technology, Work and Sick Children

How today’s parents are managing to work when a child takes ill.

Technology and Parenting

If you work in a job where your presence is a must such as health care or retail or many others, having a plan to have someone help out on those days when a child is ill is imperative. But today, in many jobs, technology can step in and help parents manage those sick kid days says Nora Spinks of The Vanier Institute of the Family. “With today’s technology, parents have the opportunity to be able to be in two places at once. So if their kids are sick, for example, they can stay home, be there when their kids need them and focus on their kids as they are most acutely ill.

Nora adds that “when they (children) are in the recovery stage or even the prevention stage and staying home that extra day, parents can use technology to stay connected at work. They can dial into meetings, they can participate in conference calls, they can access their email. So life can go on even though they need to focus on taking care of someone who is sick.”
