Sunscreen Safety

Just how safe is the sunscreen our children wear?

Sunscreen Safety

While protecting our children from the sun is important, so is knowing what we are using to do so. Studies show that in some sunscreens the active ingredient is an estrogen like compound and this is concerning especially with babies and young children says Dr. Alan Greene, author of Raising Baby Green. “It’s like giving them three times as much because their surface area is bigger and their skin is more absorbent, so it might double the amount again, but nobodies done the study yet and we have no idea of the impact of these things. So, I choose personal care products, especially for babies, that are free of anything that might be linked to cancer or any kind of reproductive or developmental problems.” The best idea; to be cautious, but don’t ban sunscreen. “The truth is both are important.  Skin cancers are on the rise and it’s important to protect kids from problems in our ozone layer, but we need to do it thoughtfully. ”
