Is Your Child Being Bullied On-line?

Bullying isn’t always obvious. With the advent of tetxting and social media, you might want to ask yourself, is your child a victim of cyber-bullying?”

Signs of Cyber Bullying

There is nothing more disheartening than to discover that peers are bullying your child. But sometimes the signs aren’t as clear as a bloody nose, ripped clothes or stolen lunch money, especially when your child is being cyber-bullied through texting and social networking sites. Fortunately there are some signs to be on the lookout for says Patti Agatston, co-author of Cyber Bullying. “Signs include if a child seems afraid to go to school, if they have a drop in grades, they may not want to involve themselves in social activities that they have in the past.”

There are more indications that your child is a victim of cyber-bullying explains Patti. “Children may give an obvious signs such as being upset after they’ve been on the computer, or being upset after viewing a text message, so a parent needs to pay attention to those signs as well. Why is the child spending so much time on the computer, or why is the child avoiding or not answering their phone? These can be warning signs of cyber-bullying.”
