How to get a better handle on stressful situations.

Today, parents have so much on their plate from their paid employment to raising children and running a household. So, it’s no wonder many parents feel a little burned out. But sometimes being stressed of not is a choice, explains Alyson Schafer, Author of Honey I Wrecked the Kids. “Stress is something that we create ourselves, we look at a situation and we decide that it’s stressful. We can actually, you know, tackle the power of our brain to say “you know, I’m in this parking lot, and I can’t seem to get out and I’m late for my child’s concert and I didn’t want that to happen, but you know what, I can’t change the situation. Rather than letting my blood boil I’m just going to turn on the radio and have a little zen moment here.” I think we can learn to say “no”, I think we can learn to take those long lineups as an opportunity to pull out a book and read, and we can talk ourselves down from some of our self-imposed stress.”
