A look the unique needs of single parent moms & their daughters.
After all as a single aren’t, most of the responsibilities of raising kids can’t be shared. But for moms who are raising daughters on their own, there are even more issues and special concerns that need to be addressed. Phyllis Cohen, author of You Have to Say I’m Pretty, You’re My Mother explains. “A single mother needs to be aware that there are two vulnerable areas – either that your daughter remains too attached to you and you’re too attached to her and she doesn’t separate so easily. The second vulnerable area is that you may think she’s more grown up than she actually is because she may behave precociously and she may seem like she’s very independent and ready to be on her own faster perhaps because you as a single parent need her to be more independent more quickly. Those are two vulnerable areas.”
